Meet the Team
Maher, Doona and Spillane balance longstanding experience with a young and vibrant team, each member offering their own unique skills. It was first formed in 1947 by Kevin Maher Snr in the old premises in Church Rd, Athy. It is now owned by his son Kevin Maher MVB GPCert (Cardio) MRCVS and his partners Andrew Doona MVB GPCert(SAS) MRCVS and Tom Spillane MVB Cert(CSM) MRCVS. Between the three partners it boasts 58 years of veterinary experience. They expanded the practise to include branch surgeries in Portlaoise, Carlow and Rathcoole. Orthopaedic surgery, cardiology and homeopathy are just some of the areas of special interest to the partners, of which they have undergone special training.

The veterinary team is joined by Caroline Wallace and Mary Donoghue having qualified from the Veterinary College of Ireland in UCD and Rachel O'Neill and Lucinda Rohen who qualified from Budapest Veterinary College. They bring a wealth of skills and techniques to the team.

Qualified Vet Nurses include Lisa O’Rourke RVN PHC and Andrina Lyons RVN (Portlaoise), Una Birney RVN PHC, Gemma Campion RVN PHC, Miranda Edge RVN, Meghan Wilmot RVN (Athy) and Lorraine Dowty RVN, Lauren Grant RVN and Catherine Lennon RVN (Carlow) and Carol Cullen RVN PHC (Rathcoole). Lisa, Una, Lauren and Lorraine qualified under the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in London. Andrina, Miranda and Catherine qualified from UCD with a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing. Carol qualified from Athlone IT and Meghan qualified from Letterkenny IT both with a Degree in Science (Veterinary Nursing) and Gemma qualified from St. Johns College Cork with a Fetac Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Veterinary Nursing. Their experience and dedication ensure optimum care of your pet. This is complimented by our nursing auxiliary Abee Thomas whose experience is invaluable.

We are happy to be a recognized Veterinary Nursing training centre for the Letterkenny, Athlone and UCD training centres and also host work placements for animal care students from Carlow, Bray, Kilkenny Colleges.

Our team of receptionists and administration staff ensure smooth running of our clinics and are best known as the friendly face at the desk. Lesley Hendy (Athy) with Pamela Grufferty (Athy) also taking care of the TB administration duties.

The office staff include Patricia McDonagh our longest standing member of staff who over the years has turned her hand to every aspect of work at the clinic not just the book work and with Linda Langton they keep the show on the road.
